EvenSide — Data Storage & Cookies Policy
1. Introduction
1.1. This policy explains how the EvenSide mobile application (“App”) stores data on your device, uses local storage technologies, and integrates with third-party software development kits (SDKs) that may collect or process data.
1.2. EvenSide is a mobile application — it does not use traditional browser cookies. However, analogous technologies are used for local data storage and third-party SDK functionality. This policy covers all such technologies.
2. Local Storage (On Your Device)
2.1. AsyncStorage
The App uses AsyncStorage (a mobile equivalent of browser local storage) to store non-sensitive preferences on your device. This data is never sent to our servers.
| Data Stored | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Match filter preferences (distance, format, style) | Remember your search filters | Until you change them or uninstall the App |
| Active tab state (e.g., Social screen tab) | Restore your last viewed tab | Until you change it or uninstall the App |
| Schedule preferences | Remember your availability | Until you change them or uninstall the App |
2.2. This data is stored entirely on your device. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
2.3. You can reset local preferences at any time by clearing the App’s data through your device settings.
2.2. Secure Storage
The App may use secure device storage (such as the device keychain or secure enclave) for sensitive data like authentication tokens. This data is encrypted at the device level and is not accessible to other applications.
3. Push Notification Tokens
3.1. When you enable push notifications, a unique device token is generated by your operating system (via Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android, Apple Push Notification Service on iOS).
3.2. This token is stored on our servers in the user_push_tokens table to deliver notifications to your device.
3.3. What the token is: An anonymous identifier for your device — it does not contain personal information.
3.4. When it is removed: Your push token is deleted from our servers when you:
- Sign out of the App
- Revoke notification permissions in your device settings
- Delete your account
3.5. Notifications we send:
| Notification Type | Channel | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Chat messages | chat-messages | Sender name, message preview |
| Message reactions | chat-messages | Sender name, emoji reaction |
| Match log updates | match-log | Match event information |
3.6. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings (Settings > Notifications > EvenSide).
4. Third-Party SDKs
The App integrates the following third-party SDKs that may store data on your device or process device-level information:
4.1. Stripe SDK
- Purpose: Processing payments (card entry, Apple Pay, Google Pay)
- Data processed: Payment card details (tokenised), device fingerprint for fraud prevention
- Storage: Tokenised payment data stored securely by Stripe, not on our servers
- Privacy policy: https://stripe.com/privacy
4.2. Expo SDK
- Purpose: App framework, push notifications, build services
- Data processed: Push notification tokens, device information for notification routing
- Storage: Minimal local caching for framework operation
- Privacy policy: https://expo.dev/privacy
4.3. Firebase / Google Services
- Purpose: Push notification delivery (Firebase Cloud Messaging)
- Data processed: Device push token, notification content in transit
- Storage: Firebase installation ID stored locally for push routing
- Privacy policy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
4.4. React Native Maps
- Purpose: Displaying venue locations on maps
- Data processed: Map tile requests, approximate device location for map centering
- Storage: Map tile cache (temporary)
- Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy (Google Maps)
5. Analytics and Tracking
5.1. Current state: The App does not currently implement third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
5.2. If we introduce analytics in the future, this policy will be updated and you will be notified before any new tracking is enabled.
5.3. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.
6. Data Minimisation
6.1. We follow the principle of data minimisation — we only store data that is necessary for the App to function and provide its services.
6.2. Local storage is limited to user preferences that improve your experience.
6.3. Server-side storage is limited to data required for your account, matches, bookings, chat, and platform safety.
7. Your Control
You have full control over data stored on your device:
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Clear local preferences | Device Settings > Apps > EvenSide > Clear Data |
| Disable push notifications | Device Settings > Notifications > EvenSide > Toggle off |
| Revoke location permissions | Device Settings > Location > EvenSide > Deny |
| Remove all local data | Uninstall the App |
For data stored on our servers, please refer to our Privacy Policy for your rights under UK GDPR.
8. Changes to This Policy
8.1. We may update this policy from time to time, particularly if we introduce new SDKs, analytics, or local storage features.
8.2. Material changes will be communicated via the App before they take effect.
